Oh mankind! We created you from a single (pair) of a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes, that you may know each other (Not that you may despise each other).

A progressive news site that focuses on stories often ignored in the mainstream media, consisting of daily news and opinion about Somaliland, Somalia, and sustainable development. This is a nonprofit, progressive, independent and nonpartisan site. Its mission is to support civil society ideals and groups in Somaliland and Somalia, promote human rights, transparent governance and inclusive growth, and sustainable development. It's seeking to challenge conventional wisdom and conservative beliefs, including the sunnah (Shari'ah). By questioning the received wisdom, this pries the lid off public debate about any questions of ultimate concern--questions often suppressed by the society's both traditional and scholarly elites. We believe that through having such a civil, public debate, a very positive precedent will be set: we can respectfully engage in discussion and debate as responsible and engaged individuals who care deeply about the future of society and humanity. How radical an idea is that? That treatment raises the possibility 'to let the public determine which ideas hold water and which fall short' sense to the level of being self-evident. We believe democracy is enhanced and public debate broadened when more voices are heard and more points of view are made available. Our purpose is encapsulated by the slogan appearing on many pages, of “That freedom shall not perish.”

We call for our screen readers to support independent, grassroots voices and media for progressives focusing on nonpartisan education and advocacy on important national and international issues. We'd like to hear from you about what works and what doesn't work as this site evolves. Comments are welcome and can be sent to E-mail contact:m.bali@aol.com.
